Shopify’s card reader, Social Media payment bots, Amazon pay and WeChat Pay in Payments
- Shopify has announced it is launching its own credit card reader, which will be available from June 2017. Shopify merchants with an existing Shopify POS solution will pay $29 for the reader but new customers and existing merchants who are not yet using Shopify POS can get the reader for free
- MoneyGram and Western Union have launched bots that let customers in the US send money transfers to tens of thousands of locations around the world through Facebook Messenger.
- Mastercard has unveiled a Masterpass-enabled bot via Facebook Messenger, at the social media group’s annual developer conference
- Amazon has announced the launch of Amazon Pay in France, Italy and Spain
- PayPal has announced that consumers in the US will soon be able to use PayPal in Android Pay to make purchases at retailers in-store, in-app and online. Initially, users will be able to pay using their PayPal balance and over the coming months will have the ability to use cards that have been stored with PayPal
- WeChat Pay has partnered Tramonex to introduce a new payment option for retailers in the UK. The payment service also plans to launch in Germany and France
