TransferWise launches international money transfers via Facebook Messenger

What you need to know

TransferWise has created a virtual assistant on Facebook to send money to people in different countries. TransferWise’s new Facebook service is currently available to Messenger users in the U.K., U.S., Canada, Australia and Europe. However, it intends to expand this across its network of 50 countries as demand grows. We tried the Bot and think it is very convenient although we could have done the same on the Transferwise app which we have installed earlier.

Why this is important

Transfers are moving social. Facebook already offered domestic payments in the UK. It makes sense to send money to contacts if you have them all in an always updated contact list like Facebook provides.

What is also moving social is servicing. More and more companies are offering live support using messenger as a complement to having chat functionality on their web pages.
