What you need to know: Ericsson introduced the standard Bluetooth at least 20 years ago. In December 2016, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group announced the adoption of Bluetooth 5 specifications that will start appearing in new devices. These specifications will connect at most twice the speed and four times the range of the past Bluetooth version.

Why it is important: Bluetooth 5 will push the development of IoT further to enable easier adoption and reliable connections of beacon technology. It will enable smooth IoT experience and reduce connection barriers.
