Catalunya, Barclays, Natwest and Starling in Banking this week
- Banco de Sabadell has announced plans to move its headquarters out of the Catalonia region to the eastern Spanish town of Alicante due to the current unrest between the Catalan separatists and the Spanish Government. CaixaBank, the largest bank in the region, is also considered redomiciling outside Catalonia
- Barclays US is testing a personal financial management tool that aggregates all of a customer’s Barclays credit cards, personal loans and savings products, as well as accounts with other banks, in one place, according to ‘PAYbefore’. The new service called ‘My Personal Bank’ is embedded in the bank’s credit card mobile app and will be offered to Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard cardholders. The first 7,500 people to register will have the opportunity to experiment with various sign-up options
- NatWest has warned its customers not to hand over confidential online banking log-in details to mobile banking apps which look to analyse spending behaviour with a view to providing money saving tips. Halifax, Lloyds Bank and Nationwide said customers would break their security agreements by giving out such details to an app provider. Barclays confirmed its customers could share details with reputable apps, while Santander customers will be able to do so from 13 January 2017
- Accenture research has found that 69% of consumers would not share their bank account information with third-party providers, while 53% said they would never change how they bank and adopt open banking
- Starling Bank is to launch a business banking service for entrepreneurs, sole traders and small businesses in early 2018. Services to be offered from the free business account will include linked invoicing and accounting, real and international payments and 24 hour customer service
